On Cloud Wine…
Happy New Year readers!
I have so many sips to share today. I still remember my dad repeating the quote, “Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver, the other gold.”I never really understood until I aged. Like wine… I matured with age. There are two wineries I want to recommend to you today. You can be the decider of which is silver and which is gold, but both have brought me immense joy.
First stop, my go-to… William Heritage. 📍 Haddonfield, NJ
When I first met Kat, she asked me what kind of wine I liked to drink. Let me preface this by saying I’m a teacher. I’m not exactly walking into Wine & Spirits looking for a wine I love. I’m usually asking myself, “Which bottle is under twenty dollars?” So, in typical Megan fashion, I told her I like anything except Chardonnay.
Naturally, I eye-rolled when Kat said she was a wine club member at William Heritage. Then we did a blind tasting, and guess which wine I picked as my favorite?
Yep. The barrel-aged Chardonnay from William Heritage. It was also the most expensive of the choices. I may be a teacher, but if you put a line-up of (insert anything), I would always be able to identify what is the most expensive. It’s honestly pretty impressive, but mostly devastating when your living on a teacher salary. Anyway, I digress.
I can’t really tell you which wine to buy, but I do think you should make your way over to the tasting room in Haddonfield, NJ and decide for yourself. Kat and I might even be there when you arrive.
Next up… Sharrott Winery 📍 Hammonton, NJ
Yesterday, we decided to try something new, and this is rare for us. We are creatures of habit. However, we looked up the food menu, which was incredible, and before you know it, we were walking through the door. Naturally, we each did a flight, and a miracle happened. I liked all three of the wines I chose. We ordered the cheese tasting plate, complete with the most incredible jam paired with each cheese, and I briefly descended to another place.
Kat and I decided to leave and try a nearby spot… and then returned for the live music and dinner. Our server, Denise, was so sweet, and for me, bonding with the staff is really important. I’ve been in the industry since I was 18, and in my opinion, that connection is the most important part of any establishment.
Notice I didn’t make any wine suggestions for either place. Wine is personal. What I will say is that Kat and I have pretty different palettes when it comes to fine wine. I swear by white, no matter the season. Kat, on the other hand, adores red, which always makes me feel like I’m DYING of thirst. However, if you know me at all, and if you follow my story on Instagram, you know that we are always out and about trying new things. I would never suggest a place that I didn’t feel deserves your time, and as a teacher, your money.
Time for you to enter your Wine Era! You. are. welcome.
